Artist Biography : Bernhard Prinz
Bernhard Prinz's autodidactic photographic, cartoonist, portraiture style are on exhibitions throughout the world. He has been a photographer for Playboy, the Focus, the Suddeutsche Zeitung, the Handelsblatt, the Star, and the Weltwoche. Bernhard Prinz has illustrated many audio books, popular musician's CD covers, film posters and many other entertainment projects which required a great photographic eye. Bernhard Prinz’s artworks has gained numerous top prizes and honorary awards since he appeared in the international art scene in the early 1980s. As a popular German born photographic artist, Bernahrd Prinz has displayed his one man shows and exhibitions, in the representation of nature studies, buildings, and still life. Prinz's form of expression is based on his interpretation of gestures, behaviors, juxtaposition contrasts, are centered around irony and subtle humor. Bernhard Prinz’s Untitled series showing men (“Krux”) and women (“Ikonen”) starring into the lens, poised in a slightly disrobed manner or interesting clothing, some with provocative gestures, and others in front of a unique background, is Prinz's image of diverse aesthetics and cultural influences. Further interpretation of the young, beautiful humans in portrait style, is to show an atmosphere of distance, coldness, and oddity. All of which represents metaphors and allegories of the removal from any social connections, any emotions, psychological conditions or physical individuality, representing the portrayal of an entire culture. While living and teaching experimental photography in Munich, Bernhard Prinz is sharing his medium through his artwork and to his students. His medium artwork includes Ilfochrome which was formerly known as Cibachrome. This method is accomplished by creating handmade photographic prints directly from color slide film (see “The Amazing and The Immutable” and “Latifundia”). Prinz also used “Passe-partout” which uses a mat or paper cardboard sheet with a cutout and is placed under a glass in a picture frame to present a raised margin (see “Konvent”). Bernhard Prinz also uses the medium of constructing a dye destruction print (see Untitled, from the Parvenue series). Less
