Italian painter Enzo Cucchi began producing artwork as a young man. However, he was more interested in poetry than art until moving to Rome in the mid-nineteen seventies. It was at this time he encountered fellow painters Sandro Chia, Francesco Clemente, Mimmo Paladino and Nicola de Maria. Together they, along with Cucchi were coined the founders of the Transavanguardia movement and gained a reputation for creating work suggestive of the Neo-Expressionist style. Enzo Cucchi's work has been noted for focusing on landscapes, nature and history. Sometimes, his paintings have been accompanied by poetic texts. Though Cucchi began exhibiting in the late nineteen seventies, his first major retrospective was held inside New York City's Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in 1986. Since then, Enzo Cucchi's work has appeared in several well-known galleries and exhibits throughout the world, including New York City's Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and The Art Institute of Chicago. One of Cucchi's most famous paintings is 'Musica Ebbra,' which he completed in 1982.
