A Frech born artist known for her simplistic yet strong, geometrical abstract pieces, Geniveieve Claisse was a self taught artist who was influenced by her uncle, Auguste Herbin also known for his modern take on abstract art, who saw her true potential in the art world , calling her "the successor appointed by destiny and hereditary.".
Genevieve Claisse's first pieces were lyrical abstractions using dramatic patches of solid colour which later expanded to a more minimalistic abstract pieces incorporating circles and triangles and the simplicity of these shapes coinciding with the variations of vivid colours the artist would use such as her CERCLES series. Genevieve later expanded her work by stearing away from bright colours and dove into geometric play with black lines on a contrasting white background.
She represented France at the International Association of Art (UNESCO) from 1986 to 1995 as well as being awarded the 1994 Élie-Faure Prize which she won after writing an art book. Read Less
