Thomas Struth is a German born photographer that splits his time between Germany and the United States. He originally made his made from the numerous black and white photographs of the streets of Dusseldorf as well as New York. Thomas Struth also did many family portraits and photographed museum exhibits. Black and white photography is generally his preferred medium of art. Thomas Struth’s decision to switch from painting to photography whilst at university has without doubt an inspired one. From the mid 1970's Thomas Struth has made his reputation by putting photographs into a large picture, most notably of deserted streets in Germany and New York. Since the 1990's Thomas Struth has produced works by going to more diverse locations in Asia, Africa, Europe, and Australia. He has produced a series of works of tropical rainforests, especially in Australia. Over the decades he has been an inspiration to aspiring photographers everywhere, with his simple montage technique.
