Tony Cragg is a sculptor from England. Early in his career he created installation art pieces which were specific to various sites, and used found or discarded objects as media. He also worked for a time period with assemblage. Eventually, he began to explore wood, bronze, Kevlar, stone, plaster, fiberglass, cast iron and stainless steel as media. Tony Cragg is best known for two ongoing projects. In one, Early Forms, he works with manipulating the surfaces of everyday containers to discover what movement can be created when they are used in close proximity with each other. The second, Rational Beings, are sculptures derived from his gestural drawings. They are built on a polystyrene core, covered with carbon fiber and manipulated to resemble the original drawings, but in three-dimensional form. Tony Cragg has exhibited throughout Europe and has several large, outdoor and indoor sculptures displayed throughout the world. Creating these award winning pieces allowed him to work in permanent media such as glass, bronze, steel, stone and wood. In recent years he has also returned to exploring his love of drawing. Two of these famous works are Caldera (2008) in the Makartplatz, Salzburg, Austria; and Blood Sugar (created in Germany in 1992) displayed in the Corning Museum of Glass in 2015. Less
