Wolfgang Tillmans is a fine-art photographer based in Germany. Initially, he was known for the portraits he would take of his friends that resembled casual snapshots, and those images cemented his reputation as an observer of movement in contemporary society. Wolfgang Tillmans became recognized as the historian of the gay and club scenes in London during his early adulthood.

His exhibitions feature seemingly arbitrary arrangements in which photographs are either taped or pinned to the walls of the gallery, rather than hung in frames. Inkjet prints, postcards, color photographs and magazine clipping with Tillmans' images are all placed on the walls, spanning almost from the floor to the ceiling.

Refers to loosely affiliated movements that relate to minimalism, geometric abstraction and op art that originated from Southern California back in the 1960s and was greatly influenced by John McLaughlin. Artists focused on sensory phenomena such as light and others as the center of their work. In addition, they incorporated latest technologies in aerospace and engineering industries so as to develop light filled and sensuous objects.
