Readymade

Readymade is the term Marcel Duchamp used to describe his artworks made from objects which were manufactured. The French artist first used the term, and artists who work similarly now use it. Duchamp chose functional objects which he felt had visual indifference.

New British Sculpture

Name that refers to the work produced by a group of sculptors, installation artists and artists who exhibited together in London in the 1980s. These artists included Richard Deacon, Richard Wentworth and Tonny Cragg. Tim woods has greatly helped identify this movement by the 4 major themes, Kitsch and Pop Synthesis, Bricolage of UK urban waste, Assignment of meanings to objects and a play of wit, humor and play.

Carborundum

Carborundum is the trademark name for silicon carbide crystals used as an abrasive material in sandpaper, cutting tools and grinding wheels. Artists originally used the substance for grinding lithography stones, but collagraph prints use it to create texture and tone gradients.
