Found objects

Found objects, objet trouvé in French, are items which an artist finds and incorporates within a work of art. Collectors have been displaying aesthetic objects in collections for centuries. But modern art uses objects with non-art functions, such as recycled or repurposed materials.

Aesthetic movement

The Aesthetic movement occurred during the late nineteenth century. It emphasized the beauty of art, and the sensual qualities of visual art more than practical or moral features. The movement promoted creating beautiful art, simply for its own intrinsic value, throughout Britain.

Gutai

Gutai were the group of Japanese radical artists who formed the Gutai Art Association in 1954. The word gutai is translated to mean embodiment. They created art on the spot for audiences, including their own physical movements; throwing paint, piercing paper and rolling in mud.
