What is a cast?

Cast is the term used to describe a form made from poured liquid material. The liquid may be one of several materials such as plastic, plaster, acrylic, concrete or mixed media. Once the liquid is cool and completely firm, the cast is removed.

Colour Field Painting

Colour field painting is an abstract style which features large areas of a single color. The first use of the term described the work of three abstract expressionist American painters, Barnett Newman, Mark Rothko and Clyfford Still in the 1950s.

Postmodernism

Postmodernism is artwork which sought to make visual statements against authority, to remove boundaries between art and everyday life, and to bridge gaps between the cultural elite and popular masses. Art in this movement embraces many earlier conventions and styles in eclectic mixtures.

Lowbrow

Derogatory term that refers to some popular culture forms. It describes an art movement that began in Los Angeles in 1970s. Lowbrow relates to a person with little intellectual or taste interest.
