What is a mobile?

Mobile is the term used to describe a kinetic sculpture. A mobile is basically an ensemble of parts which are balanced together to hang freely, move independently, or as a whole, when moved by air or contact, constructed of wire and colorful metal shapes.

Dau Al Set

This movement was an attempt to show the conscious, as well as the unconscious mind through art. Initially it started off as an offshoot of Surrealism, but grew over time to be much more distinct. Dau Al Set was the first artistic movement in Catalonia post-World War II. The name Dau Al Set translates to "the seventh face of the dice" in Catalan, which is meant to describe the movements character.

East Village Art

In 1981 Patti Aster opened the first art gallery in East Village. She helped launch the careers of several various artists and musicians. It all started out as a small gallery, but began to gain popularity and pop up more frequently, and eventually making East Village the starting point for other art movements such as Neo-Expressionism and Street Art. The Gallery closed in 1985 due to loss of interest.

Funk Art

In the 1960s, Fun Art was a reactive movement against abstract exressionism. It was widely known as an anti-establishment movement, the name comes from the jazz term "funky". This had positive and negative notations as the term in the jazz world, described passion, quirkyness, and sensuality, while it could also be associated with a foul odor. Funk was popular in California Bay Area, and while the artists of the Funk Art era had similar attitudes and artwork, they did not consider themselves as a part of a group movement.
