What is a photograph?
Photograph is the term used for a picture taken with a camera using film and then printed using special chemicals and procedures which result in a photograph image on light sensitive paper. Naïve art describes a style of artwork which is unsophisticated and simple. It usually describes the artwork of artists who have not trained in a formal academy or art school. The style is unsophisticated, simple, lacking advanced art techniques; appearing that a child made it.
In 1981 Patti Aster opened the first art gallery in East Village. She helped launch the careers of several various artists and musicians. It all started out as a small gallery, but began to gain popularity and pop up more frequently, and eventually making East Village the starting point for other art movements such as Neo-Expressionism and Street Art. The Gallery closed in 1985 due to loss of interest.
Matter painting is a technique which blends thick impasto pains with cement, mud, sand or shells. The term first emerged in the 1950s, describing the works of Belgian and Dutch painters who focused on painting materials and the different ways paint could be used.
