What is a portfolio?

Portfolio is the term used to describe a set or series of images collected in a folder to be stored or displayed. Artists often keep images together which they prefer to present as a group. Some are related thematically, while others are not.

Animation

Animation is the term used to describe the process of showing sequences of static images in quick succession to create the illusion that the images are moving. Illustrators painstakingly drew separate images, slightly changing the moving parts with each image creating a movement series.

Happening

Happening is the term used to describes artistic, theatrical events held by artists of the 1950s and 60s. These events were usually staged in a gallery installation or planned environment which featured audience participation, lighting, sounds and slide projections. Later, performance art included the artists.

Matter painting

Matter painting is a technique which blends thick impasto pains with cement, mud, sand or shells. The term first emerged in the 1950s, describing the works of Belgian and Dutch painters who focused on painting materials and the different ways paint could be used.
