Earth Art

Earth art was a style which emerged in the 1960s and 70s. It was part of the conceptual art movement, and refers to artworks created by sculpting the land or making structures in the landscape using earth, rocks or twigs.

East Village Art

In 1981 Patti Aster opened the first art gallery in East Village. She helped launch the careers of several various artists and musicians. It all started out as a small gallery, but began to gain popularity and pop up more frequently, and eventually making East Village the starting point for other art movements such as Neo-Expressionism and Street Art. The Gallery closed in 1985 due to loss of interest.

Tachisme

French abstract painting style that gained popularity between 1940-1950. It is often interpreted as a European equivalent of abstract expressionism. There are however, stylistic differences between the two art types. Tachisme was initially part of Art Informel which in favor of more intuitive expression, left geometric abstraction. Tachisme came as a reaction to artworks of Cubism. However, it is closely related to Informalism.
