What is activist art?

What is activist art?

Activist art is art created to address social and political issues. It is a kind of performance art because it is presented in public, working closely with the community which will create it. One example could be creating and posting social protest fliers in exhibition.

Assemblage

Assemblage is the French word for the artistic process of putting together three dimensional objects to create a work of art. Artists often use found objects, such as leaves or stones from nature, discarded items or recycled materials, to assemble in a creative, interesting way.

Sand

Sand is loose grains of material primarily made of quartz, mica, feldspar and other minerals and rocks. Sand paintings are made by pouring colored sands into designs; often for cultural rituals and special celebrations. The designs take many days to complete, and finally brushed away.

Embossing

Embossing is the technique of decorating or creating images with a raised design. Artists often change the shape of paper to create raised edges with many levels. The process is worked from the reverse side of the paper, using a template and sanded dowel.
