What is an object?

What is an object?

Object in art is simply a thing which exists. Sometimes, that thing is the most important to see in a painting or drawing, and then it becomes the focal point. An object can be anything that can be touched or seen, depicted in art.

Grupo Ruptura

Grupo Ruptura was an organization formed in Brazil by artists who wished to break away from the old forms of naturalist painting in favor of geometric abstract art. The seven published their Ruptura Manifesto, early in the 1950s, advocating “new art for a new country”.

Tachisme

French abstract painting style that gained popularity between 1940-1950. It is often interpreted as a European equivalent of abstract expressionism. There are however, stylistic differences between the two art types. Tachisme was initially part of Art Informel which in favor of more intuitive expression, left geometric abstraction. Tachisme came as a reaction to artworks of Cubism. However, it is closely related to Informalism.

Shock Art

Shock Art is a movement which incorporates disturbing images, scents or sounds to provoke a shocked reaction and experience in viewers. Viewed by critics and proponents as social commentary, either negative or positive, the art form seeks to use taboo, obscene or outrageous components.
