What is Chinese contemporary art?

Chinese Contemporary art is characterized by a profusion of styles and experimental tendencies. Avant- garde exhibitions in the 1980s were closed by government officials, while 1990s political pop and cynical realism emerged. China’s One Child policy also inspired the individual as subject matter.

Offset Print

Printing technique that transfers the inked image(offsets) to rubber blanket from a plate, then later to a printing surface. Combined with lithographic process based on water and oil repulsion, this technique attracts a film that is water based to keep the non-printing area ink free. Offset lithography was initially created to cut down expenses when reproducing artwork.

Acrylic on canvas

Acrylic on canvas is a technique that uses acrylic paint applied to a canvas surface using tools such as brushes and palette knives to spread the paint. Acrylic paint is a man-made liquid plastic which thins with water and air dries quickly.

Engraving

Engraving is a technique where a metal plate or box is cut directly using an engraving tool. The sharp tool makes deep lines which are then inked and printed using heavy pressure. The image produced by the technique is clear.
