What is contemporary art?

Contemporary art describes avant-garde or innovative art created in the recent past or the present day. The date describing the beginning of contemporary art varies by the institutions which exhibit the style. The museums often date the era based on their founding year.

Carborundum

Carborundum is the trademark name for silicon carbide crystals used as an abrasive material in sandpaper, cutting tools and grinding wheels. Artists originally used the substance for grinding lithography stones, but collagraph prints use it to create texture and tone gradients.

Inkjet print

An Inkjet printer makes prints by spraying millions of ink dots onto paper. This type of printing is typically not expensive because the ink used is cheaper. Artists can use computers to create art which can be printed out in color using this technology.

Papier-mâché

Composite material that consists of pieces of pulp or paper reinforced using textiles and bound using adhesives like starch, wallpaper paste or glue. Preparation of Papier Mache can take two methods, one uses paper strips that are glued together and the other method makes use of pulp that's obtained through boiling or soaking paper to which a glue is added. Each of the two methods has its own procedure. The results however, are not much different.
