What is East Village Art?

What is East Village Art?

In 1981 Patti Aster opened the first art gallery in East Village. She helped launch the careers of several various artists and musicians. It all started out as a small gallery, but began to gain popularity and pop up more frequently, and eventually making East Village the starting point for other art movements such as Neo-Expressionism and Street Art. The Gallery closed in 1985 due to loss of interest.

Monotype

Refers to a printmaking that is made by painting or drawing on a nonabsorbent, smooth surface. Historically, the surface was an etching plate of copper, but these days, the surface can vary from acrylic to zinc or glass. Image is transferred to a sheet of paper where the two are pressed by use of printing press. The process creates a unique print called monotype. The initial pressing removes most of the ink.

Digital print on canvas

Digital print on canvas is a technology where digital photographs and fine art are made into fine art prints reproduced on canvas. The digital images are sent to professional color printers which reproduce variations in color and images accurately.

Intaglio

Intaglio is a printing technique where a design is created by incising beneath the surface of stone or metal plates. Only the depressions are inked and the plate surface is wiped clean. An etching press transfers the ink to the paper.
