What is figurative art?

What is figurative art?

Sometimes known as Figurativism. It particularly describes sculptures and paintings clearly or specifically derived from sources of real objects hence they are representational as the name suggests "figurative art". This term is often used as a contrast for abstract art. However, since the coming of abstract art, this term has been used to mean any form of modern art with strong references to the actual/real world situation.

Etching

A creation of etched objects or plates by use of a strong mordant or acid to cut unprotected parts in a metal surface so as to create a desired design in the relief(Intaglio) in the metal. In the present day art especially in manufacturing, other types of chemicals are used depending on the material types available for use.

Monotype

Refers to a printmaking that is made by painting or drawing on a nonabsorbent, smooth surface. Historically, the surface was an etching plate of copper, but these days, the surface can vary from acrylic to zinc or glass. Image is transferred to a sheet of paper where the two are pressed by use of printing press. The process creates a unique print called monotype. The initial pressing removes most of the ink.

Serigraph

Serigraph is a process used to make an image using silk screen techniques. The image is scanned from an original oil painting and digitally separated into each color used in the original. Each color is assigned a separate silk screen, and applied by hand.
