What is metalcut?

Metalcut was a technique for relief printing. It existed primarily from about 1450 to 1540 in Europe. The technique used thin metal plates. One method cut or hammered away parts which should not print. A second used engraving to show white lines on black background.

Readymade

Readymade is the term Marcel Duchamp used to describe his artworks made from objects which were manufactured. The French artist first used the term, and artists who work similarly now use it. Duchamp chose functional objects which he felt had visual indifference.

Sound Art

Artistic discipline where sound is used as a medium. Like the other contemporary art genres, Sound Art is interdisciplinary in its nature. It can engage with a wide range of subjects that include electronics, acoustics, noise music, psychoacoustics, audio media, video or film and sculpture among other subjects. Early examples of sound art include Luigi Russolo's noise intoners and other experiments done by surrealists, Dadaists and happenings of Fluxus among others.

Anti-art

Anti-art describes artwork which challenges accepted art definitions. The term is said to have been created by artist Marcel Duchamp who worked with the art media called readymades; everyday items presented as art to defy traditional expectations that art should be high art.
