
What is metalcut?
Metalcut was a technique for relief printing. It existed primarily from about 1450 to 1540 in Europe. The technique used thin metal plates. One method cut or hammered away parts which should not print. A second used engraving to show white lines on black background.

ARTWORKS RELATED TO METALCUT

Artistic movement that was founded by Pierre Restany, an art critic in 1960 together with the painter Yves Klein during a collective exposition at a gallery in Milan. The original manifesto was written by Pierre Restany and proclaimed Nouveau Realisme in April 1960. The declaration was later signed in October the same year by a goup of nine people namely Martial Raysse, Yves Klein, Daniel Spoerri, Jean Tinguely, Arman and Pierre Restany together with the three Ultra - Lettrists, Jacques de la villegle, Francois Dufrene and Raymond Hains.

This movement was an attempt to show the conscious, as well as the unconscious mind through art. Initially it started off as an offshoot of Surrealism, but grew over time to be much more distinct. Dau Al Set was the first artistic movement in Catalonia post-World War II. The name Dau Al Set translates to "the seventh face of the dice" in Catalan, which is meant to describe the movements character.

Drawings and writing painted, scratched or scribbled on a wall or any other surface mostly in a public place. Graffiti art is wide and ranges from small to elaborate writings or wall paintings. This art has been in existence since the ancient times with some of the commonly used examples dating back to Roman Empire, Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt.
