What is Modern Realism?

What is Modern Realism?

Modern realism describes artwork which depicts things as they exist in reality. Because the art style followed after abstract art was developed, the art is generally painted or drawn using modern approaches while continuing to paint realistic subjects from everyday life.

Papier-mâché

Composite material that consists of pieces of pulp or paper reinforced using textiles and bound using adhesives like starch, wallpaper paste or glue. Preparation of Papier Mache can take two methods, one uses paper strips that are glued together and the other method makes use of pulp that's obtained through boiling or soaking paper to which a glue is added. Each of the two methods has its own procedure. The results however, are not much different.

Acrylic paint

Fast drying paint that contains pigment suspension in polymer emulsion of acrylic. Acrylic paints are soluble in water but resistant when dry. They have unique characteristics not easily attained by other media. Paintings made from it have some degree of similarity with oil and watercolor paintings.

Gouache

A watercolor paint that's opaque unlike the usual transparent watercolors. It gives an artist the freedom to paint layers from the light to the dark ones. Gouache is often used for the solid colors when painting. It is a type of paint in the wide category of the water-media that consists of a pigment, binding agent and an inert material designed specifically for use in a method that is opaque.
