What is Oil on Board?

Oil on board is the technique of using either wood boards which have been sanded and painted with primer, or high density cardboard covered with canvas. Either offers the advantage of using less space for storage than traditional stretched canvas on frames.

Réalités Nouvelles

Réalités Nouvelles means new realities. It is the focus of an exhibiting society founded by Sonia Delaunay, in 1939, in Paris. The Salon des Réalités nouvelles promoted the concept that abstract art does not imitate existing reality, and therefore is a new reality.

Naive art

Naïve art describes a style of artwork which is unsophisticated and simple. It usually describes the artwork of artists who have not trained in a formal academy or art school. The style is unsophisticated, simple, lacking advanced art techniques; appearing that a child made it.

Neue Wilden

Neue Wilden is the term German artist used for neo-expressionism. In the 1970s and 80s, expressive painting emerged once more in the country, and artists embraced the intense colors and broad brushstrokes used. The movement grew in opposition to minimal and conceptual art.
