What is Papier-Maché?
Composite material that consists of pieces of pulp or paper reinforced using textiles and bound using adhesives like starch, wallpaper paste or glue. Preparation of Papier Mache can take two methods, one uses paper strips that are glued together and the other method makes use of pulp that's obtained through boiling or soaking paper to which a glue is added. French abstract painting style that gained popularity between 1940-1950. It is often interpreted as a European equivalent of abstract expressionism. There are however, stylistic differences between the two art types. Tachisme was initially part of Art Informel which in favor of more intuitive expression, left geometric abstraction. Tachisme came as a reaction to artworks of Cubism. However, it is closely related to Informalism.
In 1981 Patti Aster opened the first art gallery in East Village. She helped launch the careers of several various artists and musicians. It all started out as a small gallery, but began to gain popularity and pop up more frequently, and eventually making East Village the starting point for other art movements such as Neo-Expressionism and Street Art. The Gallery closed in 1985 due to loss of interest.
Naïve art describes a style of artwork which is unsophisticated and simple. It usually describes the artwork of artists who have not trained in a formal academy or art school. The style is unsophisticated, simple, lacking advanced art techniques; appearing that a child made it.
